The National Commission on Culture pays tribute to a legendary burger-highlife musician, guitarist, vocalist, composer and songwriter who was on the music scene from the late 1960s, Nana Ampem Darko (George Darko), the Okoman Tufohene of Akropong Akuapem, whose profound impact on Ghana’s music scene has earned him a cherished place in our cultural history. His immense talent and creativity has significantly shaped the Highlife genre, enchanting audiences with his unique sound and engaging lyrics.
George Darko was not only a skilled musician but also a cultural storyteller, using his art to connect with the heart and soul of Ghanaian life. Some of his most popular songs, including “Akokɔ Ba”, “Obuomo”, “Akyekyede Me”, “Akoo te brofo”, ”Moni palava” and “Odo Dɔ”, showcase his ability to weave tales of love, resilience, and cultural pride into his music. These timeless tracks continue to echo with fans, capturing the essence of Highlife and the experiences of our people.
