NCC CLARIFIES BLACK STAR CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION
The attention of the National Commission on Culture (NCC) has been drawn to public conversations following the media launch of the Black Star Christmas event.
We have listened.
Let us be clear: We are not replacing Detty December.
Detty December was not created in an office. It was created by the Ghanaian people – by our event organizers and the Creative Arts industry, our DJs, event promoters, our diaspora family who return home every December, and by the collective creative spirit of Ghana. It is authentic, it is powerful, and it is ours.
Black Star Christmas is a deliberate platform to project Ghana’s culture and heritage during the festive season. This is the first time the Commission is intentionally creating a cultural Christmas Festival specifically for families and children.
What Black Star Christmas will do is:
- Provide an official cultural event that gives a unique Ghanaian touch to the Christmas Celebration.
- Ensure cultural sites, traditional festivals, and family heritage experience are also visible during Black Star Christmas.
- Provide a safe environment for Diasporans, all sundry, with a one-stop cultural village at the Efua Sutherland Park on 23rd – 24th December, 2026.
Moving forward, our website and communications will proudly promote the spirit of Black Star Christmas.
We invite all leading voices, event organizers, and creatives to a stakeholder dialogue at the NCC to co-create publicity for Black Star Christmas.
