The National Commission on Culture (NCC) and State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA) in a significant step towards strengthening governance and promoting national cultural development, has held a meeting to discuss modalities and guidance required before signing a performance contract.

The meeting, attended by senior officials from both organizations, aimed to align their respective mandates and enhance cooperation towards advancing the country’s cultural agenda while promoting good governance and state interests.

The State Interests and Governance Authority, established under the State Interests and Governance Act, is mandated to oversee the management of state interests, including assets, enterprises, and strategic initiatives critical to national development. Its core functions include minimizing conflicts of interest among public officials, ensuring transparency in state dealings, and safeguarding the country’s strategic assets.

Furthermore, SIGA is tasked with promoting efficiency in the management of state resources and ensuring that state-controlled entities operate with accountability and integrity. The authority also plays a pivotal role in policy formulation and oversight to foster sustainable governance and protect national interests.

The performance contract aims to foster accountability, set clear performance targets, and define collaborative roles between the two bodies. It is anticipated to streamline efforts in safeguarding cultural heritage, promoting arts and culture, and ensuring that governance policies support sustainable national development.

Speaking at the meeting, the Ag. Executive Director of the National Commission on Culture, Mr. Wakefield Ackuaku emphasised the significance of collaboration, stating that seeking guidance from SIGA is a crucial step in ensuring that our cultural initiatives are backed by strong governance and strategic oversight.

According to the Director, the Commission is committed to working closely with SIGA to realise its shared vision for a culturally vibrant and well-governed nation.

Representatives from SIGA also expressed optimism about the collaboration, highlighting a mutual commitment to uphold transparency and protect national interests through strategic governance.

After a presentation of the Commission’s planned annual activities, the signing of the performance contract is expected to take place in the coming year, marking the beginning of a productive collaboration aimed at promoting cultural development while reinforcing good governance practices across the public sector.

This collaboration reflects the government’s broader commitment to fostering a transparent, accountable, and culturally rich nation, with strategic oversight playing a pivotal role.
